Is my child too ill for school?

We understand that people are, at times, unwell. As parents/carers, it falls to you to decide if your child is too ill to attend school. It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they're unwell. Please click on the links below to see which conditions you should keep your child off school for.  On the NHS webpage (link below) you can click on each condition to see further advice.

Should I keep my child off school checklist poster

If your child has vomited or had diarrhoea, they will need to remain off from school for 48 hours following the last bout of the illness.

It is often the case that children cope well with low-level illness when they are in school, surrounded by friends and kept busy with learning.

If your child is not in school due to illness we ask you to report this using ‘Studybugs’.

This is a free absence-reporting app, which parents/carers can download here:

https://studybugs.com/about/parents.

Alternatively parents/carers can visit the Studybugs website to inform us that your child is ill and unable to attend school.

If you do not use the Studybugs app, please call the school to report your child’s absence.

You must telephone the school office every day your child is absent:

01293 524076 (option 1 to report an absence).

If we do not hear from you we follow guidance in first trying to contact parents by telephone to find out why a child is absent from school leading to visiting the child’s home if contact cannot be made.
